The Bark in the Park

BJC consistently strives to find all healthy strays a forever home, but the number of adoptable animals far outweighs the demand. BJC advocates responsible animal owner obligations and believes it is a community problem which will take a community effort to help save shelter animals and reduce these numbers.

Pugfest 2009 to Benefit Southeast Pug Rescue and Adoption

Details: Pugfest is SEPRA's annual fundraiser which is held the last Saturday in October of every year in the Atlanta, Georgia area. PugFest is SEPRA's biggest fundraising event of the year. For a nominal admission fee ($6 adults; $3 children under 12) pug lovers can enjoy food, drink, live entertainment, general and costume contests, silent auction and much more. Vendors will be on hand to provide nail trims, take  glamour shots and sell various pug and pet related items. 2nd Annual Bark for a Park Festival

Pooch Pics with Santa at Generation Dog to Benefit Have a Heart Animal Rescue

Details: Professional Photographer Teresa Musso will be at Generation Dog all day on Saturday December 6th to take photos of your favorite pet in front of a lovely holiday scene - with or without our favorite Jolly Old Fellow. To allow plenty of time for all those who are interested to have pictures made, no other back-drops will be available during this shoot.

Three photo packages priced from $25 - $35 are available - all of which include a disk with an image that you can reproduce as you see fit. A minimum of 20% of the proceeds of all photo packages will be donated to Have a Heart Animal Rescue, which strives to find new homes for abandoned or neglected pets in our area.

No appointments are necessary so make plans now to come by on Saturday, December 6th to say "cheese" and help fund a good cause. Generation Dog will also have holiday toys, scarves, hats and reindeer ears available for sale for those who want to add a little whimsy to your photo! Get ready to Bark the Vote!

Details: Canines care about our country too. Why not give them the opportunity to make their opinions known?. Generation Dog is doing just that on Election Day - Tuesday, November 4th - during regular business hours. All dogs that visit on election day will have the chance to "Bark the Vote" and cast their ballot for the presidential election. Homemade Elephant (Republican) and Donkey (Democrat) treats will be presented to each dog and whichever treat they eat first will log their vote. Families of voting dogs will receive a 10% discount on any purchase made in the boutique while they are here on Tuesday, as well as a coupon noting their voting preference so that if their candidate wins, they can come back and present this coupon for an additional 10% discount on their next purchase. Patriotic pooches everywhere will be excited to take part so make plans now to stop by on Tuesday. Second Annual Generation Dog Happy Howl-o-Ween Party

Details: Generation Dog's Happy Howl-o-Ween is back by popular demand with a change of venue this year. Well-Behaved Dogs and their Humans are invited to enjoy a night of Howl-o-Ween fun on the patio at Zoe's Kitchen on Wednesday, October 29th from 6 – 8pm.

There will be a costume contest, music, a Halloween photo op and "treats" for human and dog alike. Zoe's is providing a free drink with the purchase of a meal for all the two legged attendees – and Jinsei will be open next door for those who prefer something a little less "carbonated" to drink! All dogs MUST be leashed and under your control at all times and must be friendly to other dogs and humans.

You should also come prepared to pick up after your dog in the event of "accidents." In the event of inclement weather, we will have an open house inside Generation Dog during the same time frame so you and your dog can come trick-or-treating! Shower for the Shelter : Celebrating 125 Years of Serving Birmingham's Pets and People

The second Art & Design Thursday on July 10th will feature the Pet Portraits of Christy Funchess. Paws and Patriots Walk and Festival 2008: Salute to our Canine Veterans and their Handlers

Crestline Village Dawg Daze Festival and Sidewalk Sale

The Village is packed with Blues Clues, Clifford, and Dalmation moonwalks, and a small train and fire truck loaded with happy children circles Crestline. There is an abundance of ice cream, good food, and music. Local artists exhibit their work. The Incredible Dawg Daze parade is presided over by local Boy Scouts carrying the flag followed by the royal train carrying former canine Kings and Queens. Next follows a sea of doggy contestants, accompanied by their owners, and sometimes their entire families. The parade continues down Church Street in front of the reviewing stands with cheering crowds on both sides of the street.

"Wag-A-Tail" Event hosted by YP Birmingham to benefit the Shelby County Humane Society

Details: This event will benefit Shelby Humane Society's "Shelter Partners" program. Shelter Partners finds homes for abandoned dogs in Shelby County, which is currently experiencing an extreme overpopulation of unwanted pets, and transports them to one of several animal shelters in New Hampshire, where spay and neuter laws have controlled the pet population. To date, this program has saved the lives of over 850 dogs! $50.00 is all it takes to sponsor a dog for this trip.
